Let's talk about good fats because they are an important factor in our lifes. The cholesterol does a very good job in the body, facilitating in the make-og cell membranes and some hormones same as Vitamin D. So cholesterol is good for something afterall, neither are we keeping all the fats away. But we must be selective and try to feed our bodies as best we can.
Many of these can be found in foods that most of us love. Avocados and nuts are quality examples of foods with good fats. Unsaturated fats-polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats typically come from plant-derived oils. Few examples: soybean, sunflower, peanut, canola and olive oils. There's some scientific research showing that consuming small amounts of these unsaturated fats on a daily basis helps to reduce the risk of heart disease. It's best to try and integrate them into your cooking and baking. It is easier than you think. Olive and peanut oil can be expensive, but canola oil comes more cheaper.
Saturated fats (red meats, eggs, etc) and trans fats, on the other hand, are bad for us. These have been associated to heart attack, stroke, and even cancer. Just substituting as little as thirty calories of carbohydrates/day with the equivalent amount of trans fats practically doubles the risk of heart disease. But replacing the same ratio of carbohydrates with polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats reduces the risk of heart disease by as much as 30% to 40%.
